21st March was celebrated throughout the word as "World Poetry Day". On this occasion, All India Radio Panaji had organised a multilingual poets' meet in AIR Auditorium on 21/03/2108 at 4 pm. At the onset, Shri Saish Deshpande and Smt. Charushila Kamat (Both Staff Announcers) welcomed the audience and poets and gave a brief history of reasons behind marking the World Poetry Day. The prominent Goan poets participating in this meet were Shri Ramesh Ghadi (Konkani) , Shri Dattaprasad Jog ( Marathi) , Smt. Smita Darshetkar ( Hindi) and Dr. Brian Mendonca ( English) .
Shri D.K.Sudame, DD (E) and Head of Office , Shri Santosh Padgaonkar ,PEX and Head of Programme, Shri Mukesh Thali, News Reader cum Translator and Shri Damodar Athalekar,PEX& Official Language(I/c) presented the mementoes to Shri Ghadi , Shri Jog , Smt. Darshetkar and Dr. Mendonca respectively.
Later, the four poets enthralled the audience with their recitation of beautiful poems. Shri Dattaprasad Jog presented meaningful Gazals about human nature & relationships and also a satirical and humorous poem about modern life. Konkani poet Shri Ramesh Ghadi who had left his cushy job in the Gulf to return to his Goan homeland narrated how he was inspired to write poetry. He presented his charming village life in his unique poems. Smt. Smita Darshetkar's poems were about mother India, depicting her greatness. She also recited a satirical poem about always neglected brick which is a part of a more admired construction project, also a poem about flowing river symbolising human life. Dr. Mendonca's simple and touching poems about the Bihar Regiment of the Army, a street dweller in Delhi and a poem about a pendant of a lady aptly titled "Dependent" struck a chord with the audience who appreciated with applause.
This multilingual poets meet lasted for an hour and was masterfully compared by Dattprasad Jog .The staff of AIR Panaji was present in large numbers to enjoy this meet. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Smt. Charushila Desai.
