Mumbai, 29th Jan 2018:
One of the most exciting and engaging story telling formats in any art form is a legal drama. As an audience one is always trying to figure out who is guilty in a legal drama. Here’s that opportunity for audiences in India to play jurors. The theatre company Making Noise is all set to stage a masterpiece described by Russian-American novelist Ayn Rand as the most difficult of her books to write. A courtroom drama that will keep you at the edge of your seats – ‘THE WOMAN ON TRIAL’ inspired by Ayn Rand’s ’THE NIGHT OF JANUARY 16TH’. The play will be staged at St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra on 3rd Feb 2018.
Ayn Rand was a Russian-American novelist, philosopher, playwright, and screenwriter. The Woman On Trial is an Indian, bilingual (English and Hindi) adaptation of the famous play by Ayn Rand-The Night of January 16th. A play that makes one question the fundamental concept of what is right and what is wrong. A play that makes you think if it is right to condemn a person only because they are different from others. Night of January 16th is a theatrical play by author Ayn Rand, inspired by the death of the "Match King", Ivar Kreuger. Set in a courtroom during a murder trial, an unusual feature of the play is that members of the audience are chosen to play the jury. The Woman On Trial have already performed 3 shows of this play at alternate theatre spaces like Over Act and Whistling Woods.
The theatre company Making Noise was started by two lunatics spearheading a bunch of equally enthusiastic people. They have already ‘made noise’ with plays like Madhoo Rye’s physiological thriller ‘Kisi Ek Phool Ka Naam Lo’, A three-part thriller ‘Vikram Khosla Kaun Hai?’, ‘Gulel Bnaunga Chidya Marunga’ by Akhlaque Khan. They are now 15 members in a group with Actors and Music composers which includes, Laura Mishra, Abhishek Chakrobarty, Arpita Banerjee, Barkha Swaroop Saxena, Himanshu Rawat, Jairaj Padmanabhan, Mustafa Lightwalla, Nahid Ali Shah, Navin Talreja, Prerna Talwar, Sonu Anand, Tanmay Ranjan, Vatsaal Raja, Vikramjeet Choudhury and Yash Oberoi.
The play is directed by Laura Mishra a professional theatre actor. Laura started acting at the age of 5. She started directing at the age of 13. She has acted in more than 36 plays and has done two feature films as the lead for Balaji. She has also moved into the world of film acting and direction and is in process of directing her first feature film 'Almaseer' for Priyanka Chopra's production house.
