ALL INDIA RADIO JAMMU BAGS PRESTIGIOUS “PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING AWARD-2019”


Every year 12th November is celebrated as Public Service Broadcasting Day to commemorate the only visit of Mahatma Gandhi to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947. The awards for excellence in radio broadcasting are given annually in two categories, "Public Service Broadcasting" and "Gandhian Philosophy" , after screening of entries received from AIR Stations nationwide. This year's awards were announced on 12th November at a well-attended function held in the premises of Broadcasting House to mark the day . Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sh. Amit Khare lauded the role of Akashvani as the nation public service broadcaster. He announced the winners of Gandhian Philosophy and Public Service Broadcasting Awards. Director-General AIR, Sh. F. Sheheryar along with several other dignitaries and artists attended the event.

The award in the category "Public Service Broadcasting", has been fetched by All India Radio, Jammu for the Documentary Feature "SHANTIDOOT - RADIO" (RADIO-THE MESSENGER OF PEACE) , based on the role of radio in communicating factual information about the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A and the assured benefits which are to flow to the common citizens. In the category"Gandhian Philosophy" the award went to AIR Shimla for the documentary "SAMJHAUTA".

"SHANTIDOOT-RADIO" is the Production of accomplished broadcaster and Programme Executive, All India Radio Jammu, Sanjeev Sharma. It was written by Anjana Badyal,Prog. Executive with Rajesh Gupta, Prog. Executive as team member while Announcer Madhvi Sharma and Sanjeev Sharma rendered their Voices to the Documentary.

There are many awards and laurels brought by Sanjeev Sharma to AIR Jammu in the past . He is recipient of prestigious International "EUROPIAN UNION-INDIA MEDIA AWARD -2006" for excellence in reporting HIV/AIDS from Thompson Foundation, UK for the production "Isase Pehle Ki Andhera Ho (Before It Descends) ; "PUBLIC SERVICE BROADCASTING AWARD – 2014" for his audio production "Jeevan Rekha"(Lifeline) based on the devastating floods in Jammu region; and Prize in prestigious "AKASHVANI ANNUAL AWARDS -2014" for his Production of Radio Play " Pallavi" which was based on Life and Challenges of Transgender Community.

Instituted in 2001, Public Service Broadcasting Award has become an annual feature and this year it goes to All India Radio, Jammu which proved to be the people's voice as public broadcaster and stood shoulder to shoulder with State Administration, Police and other related organisations to reach out to the people during challenging times.
