Mumbai, 9th Nov 2017:
22 different artists, from all over the country, from Shillong to Mumbai and Amritsar to Tirunelveli, directly or indirectly affected by drug menace have come together for Bosom Mitra’s latest show ‘Solitude – Glory of Being Alone’ in Mumbai On 11th & 12th November 2017 at Piramal Art Gallery, NCPA. After a successful show in Ahmedabad recently, the art show is all set to travel across the country with Mumbai in the spotlight at the onset of Children’s Day, also when we see an alarming rise in drug abuse among youth and teenagers. The organization does not wish to educate drug addicts to give up, but to change the mindset of all the relatives and friends to understand their situation and condition, to sympathies through the various works on display.
Artists, like S. Srinivasan, AlamSher Khan, Narendra Singh, Ashok Purandare, Sukanta Das, RiniGoswami, Shiv GopalSaxena, Anamika Singh and many more, from all over the country, like, Shillong, Mumbai, Amritsar andTirunelveli. And to support the cause, some paintings are specially created by college students, either directly or indirectly affected by drug menace.
Artist& Curator Manashree of Bosom Mitra shares, “Daily, there are people out there telling you, “No” – bosses, friends, parents, spouses, and significant others – that is just a part of life. Disappointment and hurt is as much a part of living as joy, happiness, and love. Hurt is the same for those with an addiction as it is for those without. The difference is how we react to and cope with our emotions, whether they are good or bad.  We have selected these subjective paintings to express such views. Art is a powerful medium to convey a visual image and draw attention to simple details. Art can bring people together, start dialogue, promote a social change or on a personal level activate something within the human psyche, much larger. It generates humanity in us”. Part of the Proceeds of the show will be extended to NGO’s working towards rehabilitating drug addicts.
