Taking Radio Back to the Streets: Stations Ready to Return to Normal With Summer Events

Without its usual outside-the-studio presence, radio's connection to listeners and the community had been seriously challenged during the pandemic. The good news is with ramped-up vaccinations and the lifting of mask-wearing mandates, listeners seem to be open to the return of live events after more than a year of staying home, and radio is preparing to bring those events back this summer.

"It is extremely important to get back in person," says Jim Antes, Market President and Chief Revenue Officer for Townsquare Media's Monmouth and Ocean County, New Jersey stations. "[While] our personalities did an incredible job of providing entertainment and companionship during the height of the pandemic, seeing our listeners face to face will provide a great deal of normalcy and happiness." Jessica Samson, Promotions Director for Saga Communications' Clarksville, TN cluster, stresses the importance of these events to the community. "It means as much to them as it does to us. They need to know we are still, and always, here for them."
