29th November 2016, Mumbai: On 26th November 2016, a session was conducted by the Artscape team in Nana Palkar Smriti Samiti, situated in Parel, Mumbai which is a cancer rehabilitation home. The session initiated with some Music therapy which also included Om chanting followed by Light therapy and other mindful meditation practices. Sharmishta Basu, a trained classical singer led the music therapy session while Vaishali Tare, a reiki master and healer conducted the Light therapy. The idea is to invoke a sense of relief and motivation in the participants and create an insightful of self-healing in the cancer patients. Artscape aims to encourage performing art forms as an alternative approach to recovery, healing and psychological rehabilitation of any kind of physical or emotional trauma. The project is initiated by Kamalika Guha Thakurta, founder and artistic director at Artscape. Over the weekend, another such session was conducted by the Artscape team at the Indian Cancer Society, Parel.
The main objective of having these sessions and this noble initiative is to use art forms as a tool to develop individuality, communication and social skills. It aims to provide individuals a great quality of life for people of all ages with a range of needs and challenges.
