Mumbai Heroes vs. MP’s XI: T20 cricket match to Bowl Out TB

Mumbai, 3 April 2017: Mumbai Heroes and Members of Parliament XI will play a T20 game of cricket as part of the TB-Free India Summit on April 7-8 in Dharmshala. Bollywood and television celebrities led by Bobby Deol will play against the MPs’ XI team captained by MP Anurag Thakur.
The line-up of Mumbai Heroes includes Suniel Shetty, Sohail Khan, Jimmy Shergill, Sonu Sood, Aftab Shivdasani,  Mahesh Manjrekar, Narendra Kaur Dusanj, Saqib Saleem, Vatsal Sheth, Jay Bhanushali, Rajneesh Duggal, Apoorva Lakhia, Armaan Kohli, Indraneel Sengupta, Varun Badola, Raja Bherwani, Vicky Chopra, Sooraj Pancholi, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Riya Sen, Sana Khan, Samir Kochhar,  Vikas  Kapoor,  Shyam Sunder, Biji Raut, Uday Yadav, Sukhdev Chaudary, Wasim Ballouch, Prakash Uchil, Mohan Bellary, Roshan Raul, Prahant Shetty,  Omkar Kapoor, Parshuram Tiwalekar and Varun Sharma.
The TB-Free India Summit and India vs. TB Cricket match is being organized under the Call to Action for a TB-Free India. The initiative aims to bring top government officials and members of parliament (MPs) together with big name Indian celebrities to raise awareness amongst key stakeholders and audience on TB  and build the  momentum to End TB by 2025.
The two-day event will provide a platform for tuberculosis (TB) experts, scientists, patients, doctors, and government representatives to suggest strategies for fast-tracking TB Control efforts brining all stakeholders together. Eminent speakers and participants at the summit will include the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri J P Nadda, and Members of Parliament Anurag Thakur, Manoj Tiwari, Rajiv Shukla, Babul Supriyo, and Nishikant Dubey. Representatives from civil society, Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, The Union, the World Health Organization, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), The Global Fund and Corporate Trusts and Foundations that have committed to support the cause will also attend.
The TB-Free India Summit is being organized by International Union against TB and Lung Disease (The Union) as part of the Call to Action for a TB-Free India campaign supported by Challenge TB (the flagship TB control programme of USAID), The Global Fund and WHO, in association with the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.
TB in India
India accounts for one quarter of the global TB burden and tops the list of high burden countries for TB and multidrug-resistant TB. There were an estimated 2.8 million newly infected TB patients in 2015 alone (WHO Global TB Report, 2016). Despite an extensive National TB Programme and significant civil society involvement, TB remains one of India’s major public health challenges.

Challenge TB is the flagship TB control programme of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) has been tasked to implement the Challenge TB project in India through its Union South-East Asia Office in New Delhi. Call to Action for a TB-Free India
The Call to Action for a TB-Free India calls for increased efforts to control TB through innovative policies and new strategies to raise awareness and domestic resources to end TB in India. Shri J.P. Nadda, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, launched the Call to Action for a TB-Free India on 23 April, 2015. The goal of the Call to Action is to increase the visibility of TB and mobilize domestic resources and commitment to end TB in India.
