AIR Kannur is completing its 26 years of glorious service. The station has served all sections of society and has been catalyst for changes and development in the region transforming the lives of lakhs of common folks. All India Radio, Kannur is a Non-local Radio Station with 2x3 KW FM Transmitter. It was conceived as a 7th Plan project and was commissioned on 04.05.1991. This was the sixth Radio Station in Kerala and the first one in the North Malabar area. Initially started with evening transmission, it was later extended to three transmissions w.e.f. 04.07.1993, much ahead of similar FM Stations in Kerala. The programme zone of this station includes Kannur and Kasargode districts besides Mahe (Part of Union Territory of Pondicherry). 

The station covers an area of 3437 sq. km. Kannur district got the highest radio listeners in Kerala as per the 2011 Census. Stereo transmission was started on a trial basis w.e.f. 29.11.2008 following the installation of Stereo consoles in place of mono consoles. The Station radiates programmes of all varieties viz. News, Entertainment, Current affairs, Yuvavani, KissanVani, Programmes for Women and Children, Listeners' interactive live programme etc.With immense pleasure we highlights the golden moments of favorable mention in Mann Ki Baat, the monthly radio programme of Shri. Narendra Modi, Honorable Prime Minister of India and achievement of National Award for Radio Drama by Shri. K. V. Sarath Chandran Programme Executive of this station. The dedicated staff members of AIR Kannur successfully covered the National Games and Kerala State School Youth festival makes golden feathers in the success of AIR Kannur. The Engineering Head of the station is Sh. M. Baiju, DDE who is function as Head of Office also and the Programme Head of the station is Sh. K. Balachandran, ADP.

We are proud of Administrative, Engineering and Programme persons who have worked tirelessly to bring the station to this stage and those who are still working at the station and contributing for the local masses.
