The first Amateur Radio Operator was licensed in 1921, and by the mid-1930s, there were around 20 amateur radio operators in India. Amateur Radio operators played an important part in the Indian independence movement with the establishment of illegal pro-independence radio stations in the 1940s. Amateur Radio ( Ham Radio ) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones. It's fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need. The purpose of Amateur Radio is largely self-education and technical experimentation, but through the medium of radio communications, many operators around the world form long-term friendships thereby fostering international goodwill.
