Get to know Chauhan family’s youngest member

BT caught up with actress Shalini Sahuta who is all excited about playing dual roles in Sony SAB’s upcoming comedy thriller television series – Trideviyaan. Here are some excerpts from the interview.
What’s the most interesting trait about your character in Trideviyaan?
I play the character of Manya Chauhan on the show. Being the youngest daughter, she is spoilt and vies for everyone’s attention in the house.  She loves her family and is well protected. As a secret agent, she has the power of screaming loudly to break things and thus helps her bhabis in fighting crime. Whilst she is not as bright as her sister-in-laws, she thinks otherwise and loves imparting knowledge to others. The most interesting trait of my character is if she has to say, “Hi. I am Shalini”, she will say. “Hi! I am Phalini”. She can’t pronounce the alphabet ‘S’. That’s funny and an important trait.
Your character on the show is such that you need to be fit. Tell us about your fitness regime?
To essay the role of a secret agent, one must look the part and thus I physically trained for it. My fitness regime is very rigorous.  I wake up at 6 am every day, I go for a walk. I do weight training, jogging, running and Yoga. My diet is also very strict. I grab a glass of vegetable or fruit juice in the mornings. I don’t have any junk or anything that is fattening. In the afternoon, I have a good heavy lunch. In the evenings, I only stick to avocado salad or any good salad.
There will be a lot of action sequences in your new show Trideviyaan. How comfortable are you doing action sequences?
I love action and adventure. I am a person who is physically very active. I am a lot into adventure sports and action is something that gives me an adrenaline rush.
On the show, you are juggling between being a simple girl and a secret agent. How challenging was it for you as an actor to portray the different aspects of both the characters?
Yes, I am playing dual characters in the show. One of a simple girl and the other of a secret agent. It wasn’t very challenging as I think I have got into the skin of both the characters easily.
You have been a voice over artist and a radio jockey in the past. How did you prepare for your role in terms of voice modulation for both your characters in the show?
Being a radio jockey and a voice over artist, you are only emoting through your voice. Your voice is doing the job and I think that’s the biggest challenge. There is no visual involved. As an actor, I can emote through my expressions, actions and body language. So I think it has helped me in a very big way for my character as Manu (Manya Chauhan) for Trideviyaan.  I truly believe that if there isn’t any challenge. There isn’t any fun.
Rituraj is playing your father and you will be shooting for maximum scenes with him. How is your experience shooting with him?
The experience has been great. The father-daughter relationship that we share has translated from being reel to real!  I have enjoyed shooting with him and I am looking forward to working with him!
‘Trideviyaan’ will premiere from 15th November 2016, Monday – Friday at 9.30pm only on Sony SAB!
