Indian Universities should aim to figure in the top 500 global rankings -Dr Satya pal Singh

India has the best higher education Institutes like IIT's and IIM's yet none of them figure among the world's top 500 Universities. Lamenting this fact while speaking at the 23rd convocation of the National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai on Saturday Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development Dr. Satya pal Singh said that the government will strive to improve higher education so that Indian institutions are placed among the top 500 global institutions .
Dr Singh emphasized that education is essential to free the country from poverty, illiteracy, racism and terrorism. He stated that India must be a world leader in research in the digital sector by 2022 with the stand up India and digital India initiatives.
The Minister said that learning good values and incorporating them in our lives is also a part of education, this helps build the nation and society. He complemented the National Institute of Industrial Engineering  on empowering students with quality education and technical know-how.
The Minister presented degrees and medals at the 23rd convocation. Among the dignitaries present were Shri Anant J Talaulicar, Chairman and MD India Area Business Organisations, Prof SC Dhande, Chairman NITIE board of governors and Prof Karuna Jain Director NITIE.
