Licensing adding unconventional revenue for established brands

Mumbai, 11th Aug.2017:  In today’s economy, brand licensing continues to grow brands through expansion into new product categories to make unconventional revenue source and emerging markets. However, today, companies are challenged to explore new brand licensing business models to further strengthen brand equity and generate revenue. The need to do so was pronounced in ‘The India Brand Licensing Summit’ held at Grand Hyatt,Santacruz recently.

The summit was graced by Mr. Safir Anand who’s regarded as one of India's top intellectual property attorneys who touched the insights of the basics and crux of licensing and IP laws in India.  Mr. Anand said IP (intellectual property) law’s cannot be copied & sustained for a longer period of time. Nowday Nokia’s licensing business has been in the news. After Apple agreed to pay the company €1.7 billion (~$2 billion) upfront to settle outstanding patent licensing disputes. Although patent royalties have accounted for a very small portion of Nokia’s overall revenues historically, IP licensing revenues have very high margins, making them important to the company at a time when the broader wireless infrastructure market is going through a downturn.”
