MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd. undertakes large scale milk hygiene drive with 3000 marginalized famers in Kolar

Launching this initiative in association with Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF)

MTR Foods’ CSR activity will focus on their home state of Karnataka
15th November 2017, Bangalore: MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Orkla ASA, Norway, launched the second edition of their community program today, which was launched last year. This year they distributed 3000 high quality stainless steel pails to marginalized farmers from surrounding villages in Kolar district. This initiative is in part, to fulfill MTR Foods’ commitment to support needy farmers with hygienic vessels to transport milk from their farms to the local milk cooperative societies.
Marginalized farmers are farmers pouring less than five liters of milk at a time. They are highly deprived of the proper resources required to maintain proper milk quality during transit and ensure food safety at the same time. MTR’s partnership with KMF helps solve this issue and makes the farmers’ lives easier, thereby further building the rural infrastructure in Karnataka.
Dignitaries present at the launch of the initiative included Shri. N Hanumesh, Managing Director of Kolar-Chikkaballapura District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd. (KOMUL), P. B. Rajashekar, Director of Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), Mr. GLN Murthy, Head – Manufacturing of MTR Foods and Mr. Sunay Bhasin, CMO of MTR Foods.
Commenting on the initiative Mr. Sunay Bhasin, CMO, MTR Foods said, “MTR Foods has always stood by maintaining the highest quality benchmark when it comes to quality and hygiene. As part of this responsibility we are continuing this initiative for the second year in a row. We want to emphasize that sustainable development of marginalized farmers is one of the ways to ensure a level of standard, right from the source of raw material. We have been consistently aiming to tackle the problem of effectively providing sustainable solutions for safety and handling of milk over the years, and we are grateful to Karnataka Milk Federation for making this year’s initiative bigger and better. This valuable tie-up helps bring us closer to our long-term goal and social commitment towards supporting the larger dairy farming community.”
Shri. Byatappa, President, KMF, said, “Secure transit of milk has been a priority for us and this contribution by MTR Foods has been a relief for the dairy community, especially for the marginal farmers. Our main objective is to obtain better-quality Milk and milk products and we believe that it is initiatives like these that can help us achieve this
Shri N Hanumesh, Managing Director, KOMUL added, “We are very happy with this collaboration – the 2nd Edition of the Milk Pail Distribution by MTR Foods has increased the sourcing and food safety parameters with the dairy community in Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts. We hope that MTR Foods will continue with this initiative for years to come.”
The program in its second iteration this year, follows MTR Foods’ parent company – Orkla ASA’s vision – to improve everyday life with healthier and sustainable solutions focusing on the company’s home state of Karnataka.
