The 61st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC) was held in Mumbai, on September 25, 2017. With more than 650 attendees, 30 exhibitors, and a special ‘Invest in Germany: Advantages from North to South’ pavilion including FrankfurtRheinMain, Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI), German-Indian Business Center (GIBC) and Hamburg Representation Mumbai; the AGM, which coincided with the 44th BMW Berlin Marathon, was one of the biggest representations of stakeholders in Indo-German business and trade. A special clip of the Berlin Marathon, held earlier in the day in Germany, was shown at the AGM. In keeping with the theme of health and fitness, Apollo Hospitals – Navi Mumbai conducted free health screening for the guests and gave them an on-the-spot report of their bone density, blood sugar level and lungs functioning, along with a brief consultation. After an introduction by Bernhard Steinrücke, Director General, IGCC, attendees were welcomed by C.S. Mathur, outgoing President of the IGCC, and addressed by Dr. Martin Ney, German Ambassador to India, and Dr. Aashish Contractor, Head of Department, Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine, Sir. H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre. Suresh Prabhu, Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, shared thoughts via a video message. Awards for Outstanding Contribution towards the Promotion of Indo-German Economic Relations, Outstanding Export Performance by an Indo-German Joint Venture, the Sustainability Awards 2017 and the Dr. Günter Krüger Award for Excellence for the top performing students of the Indo-German Training Centre (IGTC) in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai, were declared at the AGM. In the Lufthansa Lucky Draw that followed, two winners received two return tickets to Germany each. Thomas Fuhrmann, the newly elected IGCC President, concluded with a vote of thanks. A live telecast of result announcements of the federal elections in Germany was arranged, so guests could keep track of updates leading to Chancellor Angela Merkel’s victory.
