The music of a film plays an important role in the narration of the story line and also a way to reach out to the audience. A movie which is based on the life of notorious gangster politician, Daddy, the soundtracks play the most vital role in connecting with its audience. Set in the late 80's and 90's, Daddy has an eclectic soundtrack that boasts of tunes and beats that were synonymous with the era.
A soundtrack that stays true to the period it is set in is what the makers of the film had in mind while creating the same. To create a mix of melodious tunes keeping in mind Arun Gawli's personal tastes was the actual challenge when it came to music. Bringing in festivals with his secular nature, Gawli celebrated both Ganesh festival and Eid with equal passion, which is why Daddy has both a Ganesh song titled Aala re Aala Ganesha and an Eid track. Aala Re Aala Ganesha is composed by Sajid Wajid and sung by Wajid and Dr Ganesh Chandanshive - the track is a major highlight of the film. Eid Mubarak is composed by Sajid Wajid.
Its very rare to see a movie album which has such diversity in it. Both director Ashim Ahluwalia and the lead actor of the film Arjun Rampal took interest in working on the music of the film. With a combined effort, they wanted to ensure that the soundtrack organically works towards building up the narrative of this real life based thriller.
Breaking the stereotypes of a cliched item song, Daddy choose to recreate a song from 1987 titled Zindagi Meri Dance Dance which was originally produced for the hit Mithun Chakraborty film Dance Dance but was never used. On the idea of including the song Arjun says "We weren't too keen on having an item song in a gangster film for the sake of it. It has become a norm to have one such song in films of this genre. I wanted to stay true to the era and have a song from the 80s which is part of a scene that takes place in Caesar Palace, a legendary nightclub from that time. When I heard Zindagi Meri Dance Dance, I knew it had to be on the Daddy soundtrack."
Different from any other gangster films whose music has a patented mix of an item song, a romantic ballad and a title track, Arjun Rampal's 'Daddy' has an outstanding mix of tunes and melodies that will make you recall the late 80's and early 90's. As they've always stated the makers have stayed absolutely authentic to the period and story of Arun Gawli by incorporating actual bands that played music in that era.
As for the Ganesha track, they got the same band (Ajinkya Band) to play music in the film who had played at Gawli's son's wedding. Small details like these have surely helped in making the Daddy soundtrack stand out from the crowd and be a true winner with its audience.
