Mumbai 29th Dec 2017:The beautiful coastal stretch in Maharashtra has a charm of its own. The food of the land and the beauty of the coastline are what have made the Kokan region a preferred destination. To give a glimpse of the picturesque Kokan region, come January 2018, Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan will be hosting the 6th edition of Global Kokan Festival at CIDCO Exhibition and Convention Center, Vashi, Navi Mumbai from 6th Jan 2018- 10th Jan 2018 co-organized by Make in India & MTDC. A move beyond the fun & food element of the festival, the event will also serve to be an educational fair with Live Demonstrations on Fish Farming & Cultivation by noted organization MPEDA (apex fisheries body).
The 5-day extravaganza to celebrate the beauty of Konkan and several avenues the region offers, the Global Kokan festival will witness seminars and events ranging from cultural shows like Folk dances competition and drama performances from various dance groups to Food stalls. A welcome change from the typical bollywood and contemporary dance competitions, the Global Kokan Festival has invited Dance troupes from kokan and across Maharashtra to perform on traditional folk dances like,Lavani, Koli, Dindi Dance, Tarpa, Picasa etc, keeping in mind the theme of the festival. Interested troupes can register. Winning team will be awarded with cash prizes at the prestigious finale. ‘All India Dance Championship 2018’ will be held on 6th, 8th and 9th Jan 2018 and the registration is ongoing. Spot registration is also welcome. Also there will be Warli Art paintings and Puppet Show on mythological stories to give a traditional touch to the festival and to keep the spirit of Global Kokan. Along with this, one can enjoy authentic Konkani and coastal delicacies like, Crab Masala, Kheema paav, Javala (Dry Shrimp), Dry Bangda (Fish), Misal Pav, Authentic Pickles and more. Visitors can buy some eatables that are sure to leave you wanting for more.
The key highlight of the fest is the four effective seminars i.e Make in Kokan, Advantage Kokan, Blue Revolution and Tourism Conference. Shri. Sanjay Yadavrao Chief Organizer, Global Kokan & Kokan Bhumi Pratishthan shares, “The idea behind organizing the 6th Global Kokan Fest is to promote Kokan tourism on global map, boost reverse migration and starting a mega youth entrepreneurship drive in the Kokan region. Itwill provide a platform for several self-employment projects at every village in Kokan in the areas of Tourism, modern agriculture, processing, fisheries, forest herbs, port development and many more”.
The event is supported by Government Departments such as MTDC, Agriculture, Fisheries, MPEDA, CIDCO, Maharashtra Maritime Board, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation and more.
