PSA’s BHARAT MUMBAI CONTAINER TERMINALS RECEIVES THREE NEW SUPER POST-PANAMAX QUAY CRANES

Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Private Limited ("BMCT"), a subsidiary of PSA International Pte Ltd, has received three new Super Post Panamax ship-to-shore quay cranes on 11th April 2018, bringing the total number of quay cranes at BMCT to nine currently.
The latest cranes were manufactured by Doosan Heavy Industries and are the same specifications as BMCT’s six other quay cranes. All are twin-lift capable with a capacity of 65 tonnes under the spreader, capable of handling mega container vessels up to 22 rows across. More equipment deliveries are scheduled for 2018 and 2019, including three more quay cranes.
Mr. Sivakumar K, General Manager of BMCT, said, “After less than three months of operations, BMCT is achieving productivity levels in excess of 100 moves per hour for mainline vessels. We are handling more vessels and volumes with each month and increasing the growth rate at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT). The additional equipment will allow us to continue on our trajectory of growth in volumes and service levels, as well as stimulating more mega-vessel calls to Nhava Sheva.”
In addition to the yard and shore facilities, BMCT’s rail facilities will be the largest in a container terminal in India when BMCT’s Phase 2 is completed. It will include the only on-dock Dedicated Freight Corridor-compliant facility in JNPT, capable of handling 1.5-kilometre long, 360 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (“TEU”) container trains.
As PSA steps into its 20th year of port investments in India, BMCT looks forward to continuing PSA’s commitment in developing its facility to serve the trade and enhance the livelihoods of the local communities.
BMCT was officially opened by Shri. Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister of India, on 18 February 2018.
