Teams determined to play for wins as NBL starts today
Mumbai, November 10: The six participating teams are all geared to serve up some fine performance and are determined to get off to positive starts by trying to win their opening round matches of the 2nd NSCI Badminton League (NBL), which is scheduled to commence at the NSCI badminton hall, Worli, on Friday morning. The opening round of matches will start at 9.30 am.
In first round league ties, Rajdhani Royals take on Maverick Aces, King Shuttlers face off against Roaring Raqueteers and Solitaire Shuttlers clash with Giant Slayers.
The brain behind this event is Supriya Devgun, who will be playing dual roles as co-owner and player of Solitaire Shuttlers. Devgun is also the joint convenor of NSCI badminton and Founder Director of Evolution Sports.
The event has the blessing of NSCI President, Jayantilal Shah and Hon. Reg. Secretary, Rakesh Malhotra. The tournament is being supported by Yonex Sunrise and the medical partner is Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute.
The winning team will receive a handsome cash prize of Rs 75,000 and the runners-up team will earn a cash award of Rs 40,000.
Each team will consist of 15 players, including 2 women and one player over 50 years. Every team will play each other in a tournament round-robin league format. The team with the maximum points, will be declared winner, while the second best points will be the runners-up.
The format of the matches would consist of 5 double rubbers (the second rubber will be mixed doubles). Each rubber will be of best-of-3-games (the first two games would be played over 21 points and the third will be of 15 points.
