VIDYA BALAN, NEHA DHUPIA TO RECREATE HAWA HAWAII IN TUMHARI SULU

The actress will, with Neha Dhupia, recreate ‘Hawa Hawaii’ in their next.

Mirror (November 29) was the first to report that Vidya Balan will play the titular late-night radio jockey (RJ) of a semi-adult show in adman Suresh Triveni’s directorial debut, Tumhari Sulu.

We have now learnt that the makers are recreating Sridevi’s iconic track, “Hawa Hawaii”, from Shekhar Kapur’s 1987 sci-fi drama, Mr India, that will feature Vidya and Neha Dhupia, who plays her boss in the film, which is produced by T-series and Ellipsis Entertainment.

“Music plays an important role in our film as it is set in the world of radio. The song isn’t just a promotional track. It appears at an important point in the story.

Vidya’s Sulu is a big fan of Sridevi and we wanted to pay a true tribute to the original, reviving it in its full glory,” Suresh told Mirror. The original track, which sees Sridevi infiltrate enemy camp with a song-and-dance sequence in her signature screen style, is being recreated by Tanishk Bagchi, who recreated “Humma Humma” for Shaad Ali’s OK Jaanu and “Tamma Tamma” for the Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan-starrer Badrinath Ki Dulhania in the recent past.

Meanwhile, Suresh is presently chalking out the song’s execution with choreographer Rajeev Surti, Director of Photography Saurabh Goswami and production designer Dhara Jain. “Vidya and Neha will start rehearsing in a week and we will shoot the final song sometime in mid-June. It will have the right balance of the original’s charm and a contemporary vibe,” he explains

Prod him if Vidya and Neha’s looks will be inspired by Sridevi’s and the director says, “You might see some glimpses in terms of the moves, but the look will be our interpretation of the original visuals. We haven’t zeroed down on the final look yet though.”

Vidya has previously grooved to “Bholi Soorat Dil Ke Khote” and “Shola Jo Bhadke” from the 1951 film, Albela, for her turn as yesteryear actress Geeta Bali in the Marathi film, Ek Albela, the biopic of late actor-filmmaker Bhagwan Dada.
