All India Radio, Jeypore (Odisha) started its journey on 28th June 1964 with a 10KW MW Transmitter ( NEC MB-124C) situated at Rondapalli, 8 km away from main Jeypore City. Initially it was only relaying AIR, Cuttack program. Local program started originating from this station from 15th July 1968 from the emergency studio at Transmitter. Transmitting power was upgraded to 20 KW with one additional 10KW transmitter in 1974. Permanent Studios were commissioned on 11th September 1979 in its Administrative Building complex which is situated in a beautiful landscape on one side of the town and on the bank of the Jagannath Sagar, a wide picturesque lake. Power of transmitter was further upgraded to 100 KW by installing a new BEL HMB-140 MW transmitter on 16th September 1993. In addition to this, one 50 KW Shortwave transmitter (Continental CEC 417E) was installed and brought into operation since 15th August 1998. One 1 KW FM transmitter (103.6 MHz) was also commissioned on 28th October 2014. In a latest development, the old BEL HMB-140 Transmitter was replaced by a new Digital Nautel NX-100 transmitter from 18th February 2018.
Broadcasting zone of All India Radio, Jeypore covers mainly five districts of Southern Odisha namely Koraput, Nabarangpur,Malkangiri, Rayagada and Gajapati. The program zone covered by the station are Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi & Naupada. The Zone is adjacent to Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Most of the region is covered by mountains and forest ranges. The region is mainly inhabited by various tribes of which Soura, Kandha, Paraja, Gonda, Koya, Bonda, Bhatra, Amanatya and Bhumia from the main bulk. Programmes are produced mainly in Odia. Hindi, English, Desia, Kandh & Saura are also produced on a regular basis.
Kendra was awarded for Technical excellence thrice. Apart from 30 Akashvani Annual Awards, Station has achieved 10 International Awards. 55th Foundation Day was celebrated with various activities including Plantation of Saplings by staffs. A very entertaining musical program was arranged in the evening inside office premises.
