Aryaman and Arosh win 420 Nat sailing title; Muthu-Singha 470 champs
Continuing from where they left off on the opening day, young guns Aryaman Dutta and Arosh Chaudhari of RBYC showed their mastery of the waves in the Mumbai Harbour on the final day of the 17th All India National Sailing Championship for the 420 and 470 Class.
The two 19-year-olds stamped their class with a clean slate, winning the last three races in tricky sea conditions off the INWTC and clinching the title. Aryaman, a student of Bombay International School, has teamed with US based Arosh to compete in the highly competitive International 420 Class boat and the duo have their sights set on the World Championships in Perth in December this year.
Second placed Diya Correa and Amit held off experienced young sailor Vishnu Saravanan and his rookie crew Abhimanyu to secure their silver medal. The surprise package of the day was the duo of Ananya Chouhan and Ananya Siwatch from Hyderabad, who sailed extremely well to bag the girls title and the Spring Chicken Cup for the best junior team
There were no surprises in the 470 fleet as veteran PP Muthu and crew SC Singha of AYN sailed to victory. The pair quelled the challenge of another old sea salt Ayaz Shaikh and crew Shubham Patel, who comfortably secured the runners up spot. Both these 470 teams are now headed for Europe to participate in the European Championships, supported by the Yachting Association of India.
