August 3, Mumbai: IIT Bombay won the Mumbai qualifying round of The Sweden India Nobel Memorial Quiz 2017 held at Prin. LN Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, today.
The team of three comprising Jibitesh Behera, Soham Dibyachintan and Kavin Aadithiyan C did their college proud by winning the Mumbai finals, where 300 students from 30 colleges of Mumbai participated. Consul, Mr. Jan Campbell Westlind from the Consulate General of Sweden in Mumbai, handed out the prizes at the Inter-Collegiate quiz competition which saw avid quizzers from across reputed colleges and technical institutes of the city.
Quiz Master Ms. Seema Savarkar hosted the regional round in Mumbai where the participation was open to all college teams.
Winners of the Mumbai round will represent the city at the National Finals which will be held at New Delhi on 11th of October 2017.
Apart from Mumbai, the Quiz will also be held in Ahmedabad, Indore, Guwahati, Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi.
Congratulating the Mumbai Champions and speaking about the quiz the Consul Mr Jan Campbell Westlind said “Sweden and the capital city Stockholm is now considered the second biggest tech hub in the world on a per capita basis, in fact, if you played a game on your phone today (like Candy Crush), listened to music online (Spotify) or phoned a friend (Skype), chances are you used a Swedish company. Not bad for a country with a population of only 10M people. I look forward to meeting the students of today and entrepreneurs of tomorrow that want to change the world with new ideas. Sweden and India have a very special connection and the two countries have complemented each in the fields of healthcare, innovation and education for years. India has one the world’s fastest growing entrepreneurial and start up ecosystem and with such keen interest, it is only fitting for us, to use this platform of the Nobel Memorial Week for further discussing ways and means by which India and Sweden can broaden their collaboration even further”
The winners of the National quiz will get an all-expense paid trip to Sweden, where they will visit headquarters of the partnering companies, Swedish universities and the Nobel Museum.

About The Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week 2017:
The Sweden India Nobel Memorial Week, which is celebrating its 11th edition, was instituted in memory of Swedish innovator, entrepreneur and philanthropist Alfred Nobel. It celebrates the contribution of Indian Nobel Laureates as well.
The celebrations which are spread over a couple of months, would be showcasing the contributions, in terms of knowledge and innovation, of Swedish companies to the country and has therefore been titled as “Sweden Makes in India”.
The theme also includes sustainability and innovation.
