Bringing back the Dangal fame Zaira Wasim with Aamir Khan, this highest grossing Bollywood film of 2017, Secret Superstar narrates the story of a young girl who dreams to be a singer but faces several restrictions from her conservative and abusive father until she meets a musician who can make her dreams come true. The film features Zaira Wasim, Aamir Khan, Meher Vij and Raj Arjun in lead roles, is written and directed by Advait Chandan and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. After breaking several records globally, the film is all set for its World TV Premiere on Zee Cinema, Home of Blockbusters on Sunday, 25th February at 8 PM.
This coming of age drama that inspires women to pursue their dreams boasts of award winning nuanced performances ranging from an emotionally charged aspiring teenage singer - Insiya (Zaira Wasim), a regressive, cold abusing father - Farookh Malik (Raj Arjun), a submissive yet supportive mother- Najma (Meher Vij), an obnoxious music director - Shakti Kumaarr (Aamir Khan), a little brother and a cute friend that make this a complete family entertainer. Amit Trivedi's winsome music is another striking aspect of the film. Songs like ‘Main Kaun Hoon’, ‘Pyaari Ammi’, ‘Nachdi Phira’ sung by award winning child prodigy Meghna Mishra are very charming and will strike an emotional chord with one and all.
Commenting on being a part of the movie, actress Meher Vij shared, “I remembered my school days while shooting for this film - we were so disciplined, studious and sincere. Such dedication is hard to find but we learned so much and loved every bit of it. As they say films can influence people, it’s our responsibility to make the right kind of films and I hope this film can inspire people to chase their dreams with more perseverance.”
Secret Superstar tells the story of Insiya (Zaira Wasim) a fifteen-year-old Vadodara-based girl who has a great talent for singing and dreams of becoming a famous singer. Insiya’s father (Raj Arjun) is a typical patriarch who only loves his son and wants his daughter to be confined to the house but her mother (Meher Vij) is supportive. Insiya records a song while disguising herself in a niqab and uploads the video on YouTube under the name of 'Secret Superstar'. She becomes an overnight sensation and grabs the attention of Shakti Kumaarr (Aamir Khan), who is a talented but is an obnoxious music director who was once a successful singer. The film shows showcases her journey of fulfilling her dream by overcoming various emotional hurdles with grit, determination, willpower and the help of her mentor and guide Shakti Kumaarr.
