STUDENTS OF ITM GROUP OF INSTITUTION CLEAN MUMBAI’S BEACH, CLEAR 100 BAGS OF GARBAGE

27th August, 2017 Mumbai: As citizens of Mumbai enjoyed Ganeshotsav celebrations, a group of 50 students from ITM Group of Institution’s Eco Club came together for a clean beach drive. ITM group of Institution continue to follow their cause of Cleaner and Greener Mumbai. Students came forward in association with BMC officials for a beach clean-up drive.
For the past three years, members of ITM Group of Institution’s ‘Eco Club’ have been conducting clean beach drive. This year, students cleaned 800 metres stretch at Dadar Shivaji Park where students collected close to 2500 kg waste with many volunteers and teaching staff.
Armed with brooms, gloves and masses, ITM students came together on Sunday. In a span of three hours, around 100 bags were filled with waste collection from the beach. To support this activity and the cause, BMC provided the students with the dumper truck to dump the garbage on the beach.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Prachi, HOD Marketing & Head of ITM Eco Club said “Shivaji Park area is considered as one of the dirtiest places in Mumbai post Ganesh Visarjan.  ITM Kharghar’s Eco Club students have been conducting the clean-up drive here every year with an objective to spread awareness and sensitise the onlookers towards environment protection by right practices. I would like to congratulate and thank all our students for contributing towards the same. Further, ITM Group of Institution would like to acknowledge BMC and other government authorities for letting us contribute and participate in the clean-up drive movement”
While commenting on this initiative, Rituraj, member & current year President of Eco Club said, ‘It is important to keep in mind our responsibility towards mother earth.We students undertake this activity every year in order to give back to the mother nature and influence others to follow the same.’ Prof Roopam, faculty coordinator of ITM Eco Club expressed, ‘Ganeshotsav is a wonderful festival and brings in lot of happiness around. As a citizen of Mumbai, every year, people come in large numbers for immersions but people fail to collect the leftovers of flowers, decorations, plastic, etc. Through this activity, our aim is to spread awareness about clean and green environment.’
