Every year the 15th February is observed as the "Radio Kishan Diwas". On this date in 2004, when Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India and Shri Satyanarayan Rao was the Union Agriculture Minister, the Farmer's Radio Programme "Kishan Vani" was launched. During the last 14 years, much water has flown down the river Mahanadi and "Kishan Vani" has gained wide reputation. Currently, 96 AIR Stations are broadcasting this daily Programme. 15th February being the 'day-following Maha Shivratri' and it might not have attracted much people to the show, The "Radio Kishan Diwas and Kishan Mela - 2018" was organised by All India Radio Jeypore (Koraput, Odisha ) at Kukudabai Village in Nabarangpur District on Friday, the 16th February 2018. It was a great experience interacting with more than 100 farmers, some of them highly qualified progressive farmers, those who had come from all the Districts of the undivided Koraput. 50 farmers were felicitated with Shawls and a Rose bud, 15 farmers were given Radio Sets, Shawls and Rose Buds. The panel of Experts comprised Dr M. Madhu, Director, Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dr. Kartik Lenka, Principal Scientist, MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Bijay Kumar Mishra, Assistant Director, Central Silk Board, Sunil Kumar Parichha, Technical Assistant, Institute of Sericulture. The discussions on various issues concerning Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Water & Soil Conservation and Organic Farming were so Informative, educative and timely.
