Lt. General Manoj S/o ex-news reader Sudha Naravane, is next Vice-Chief of Indian Army


In top level appointments in the Army, Eastern Command Chief Lt.-General Manoj Mukund Naravane has been named as next vice chief of the 13-lakh strong force, in an indication that he is likely to succeed General Bipin Rawat when he retires on December 31.

He completed his school education in Jnana Prabodhini Prashala, Pune. Naravane is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Pune and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. He also has a master's degree in Defence Studies from Chennai University and a M.Phil in Defence and Management Studies from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.

Naravane was commissioned into 7th Sikh Light Infantry in June 1980. He has vast experience and has served in Counter-Insurgency Operations in Kashmir and Northeast India. He has commanded a Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir; an Infantry brigade; Assam Rifles in Northeast India as Inspector General (North); a Strike Corps; General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi Area; and 20th General Officer Commander-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Army Training Command (1 December 2017 - 30 September 2018). In addition, he was an instructor at the Army War College, Mhow and served as the Indian Defence Attache to Myanmar. He was also the commander of the 2017 Republic Day parade. During his career, he has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (2019), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2017), Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal (2015) for his service.

Naravane likes painting, yoga and gardening. He is married to Veena Naravane who is a teacher and has 25 years of experience. She is now the Regional President, Army Wives Welfare Association of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC). They have two daughters. Manoj Naravane's father was ex Air Force officer and mother was one of the famous Marathi News reader at AIR Pune and renowned writer late Smt. Sudha Naravane.
