Top chess players from 14 countries will match their wits against each other in the Rs 29 lakh prize money 10th edition of the Mumbai Mayor's Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017, which will be played at Mount Litera School International, Bandra Kurla Complex from 4th to 11th June, 2017.
The tournament has seen a massive response from chess players with more than 1000 entries and counting with only 1 day to go for the event. The tournament is organised by Venus Chess Academy and conducted by Mumbai Suburban District Chess Association under the Aegis of All Marathi Chess Association and All India Chess Federation. LIC of India and Ankit Gems are co-sponsors of the event while Mount Litera School International is the venue partner for the tournament for 2nd consecutive year.
GM Amonatov Farrukh (ELO 2632) of Tajekistan is the top seed and GM Diptayan Gosh (ELO 2569) (2nd seed) will lead the Indian team along with Karthikeyan P (ELO 2502) (5th seed).
The tournament is an International norm event with 14 countries taking part and will be played in 3 different categories. With a total prize money of ₹29, 00,000 Mumbai Mayor’s Chess is one of the richest tournaments in India.
There will be one round per day for Category A except the 2nd and 4th day where 2 rounds will be played. Top 40 games will be available live on the website for fans.
