Forensic Science is an important part of the judicial process. Today the judiciary faces three important issues; these are: low conviction rate, high pendancy and long and lengthy period of cases. Stating this at the 38th Annual National Conference of Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine at IIT Mumbai today the Minister of State for Home Shri Hansraj Ahir emphasized that the deliberations at ‘Forensic Medicon 2017’ would go a long way to help the judicial process as it is highly dependent on scientific evidence. This would not only increase the conviction rate but also lessen the lengthy trial period and increase the faith of citizens in judiciary.
He declared that his government is committed to providing all the facilities for forensic medicine and forensic science to reach international standards and whatever the conference recommends to the government would be considered seriously and would be implemented.
Expressing concern over women related crimes the Minister said that recent advances in scientific evidence should help tackle crimes against women. The minister said that he was pleased to see that this conference will also include legal experts, senior police officials who will discuss legal reforms needed in the light of forensic evidence.
Shri Hansaraj Ahir expressd hope that all forensic medicine and forensic science laboratories should not only be of world standards but also be foremost in contribution to research and development.
