Mumbai Mayor Mahadeshwar plans to hike prize-money of Mayor’s chess tournament
Mumbai, June 4:
Mumbai Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar officially declared open the Rs 29 lakh prize money 10th Mumbai Mayor's Cup International Open Chess Tournament 2017, , which will be played at Mount Litera School International, Bandra Kurla Complex. LIC of India and Ankit Gems are co-sponsors of the event while Mount Litera School International is the venue partner for the tournament for 2nd consecutive year. 
The Mayor in his address congratulated the organizers Venus Chess Academy and Mumbai Suburban District Chess Association (MSDCA) for conducting this tournament for the last decade.  “Venus Chess Academy in association with MSDCA has been working hard to organize and conduct this tournament and I congratulate them for doing a wonderful job,” said Mahadeshwar after inaugurating the event on Sunday evening.
“Since this tournament is growing in stature and become very popular by attracting some of the big players, I personally believe that there has to be an increase in the prize-money. This year the total prize fund is Rs 29 lakhs, but I will propose to increase the amount from next year,” the Mayor stated.
This year’s edition will witness, leading players from 14 countries match their wits against each other and fight it out for the top honours.

The tournament is an International norm event with 14 countries taking part and will be played in 3 different categories. With a total prize-money of Rs 29 lakhs the Mumbai Mayor’s Chess is one of the richest tournaments in India.
There will be one round per day for Category A except the 2nd and 4th day where 2 rounds will be played. Top 40 games will be available live on the website for fans.
