Everything is fair in Love, War and Cricket: Shikhar Dhawan
Meet the Sufi side of the Gabbar of Indian cricket team only on Viu
MUMBAI/NEW DELHI June 9th, 2017: After a swash buckling innings and a crucial partnership with Rohit Sharma which paved the way for India’s comprehensive win against Pakistan at the ICC Champion Trophy on June 4, ‘What the Duck 2’ comes up with its latest episode featuring India’s dynamic opener Shikhar Dhawan in a candid chatThe show hosted by Vikram Sathaye, a stand-up comedian and a cricketing insider, brings out never heard before secrets, intimate stories and the funny side of our Boys in Blue only on Viu, the video-on-demand service.
The Gabbar amongst the Men in Blue talks about how his nervousness was palpable as he walked out from the dressing room for his debut innings against a fearsome Australian attack. For the longest time, he goes on to say, he tried to hold back on his natural attacking style of batting. Despite this, somehow, he managed to get the ball to the ropes on a consistent basis. From back in the dressing room right onto the playing field, he even cussed himself in his mind thinking, “Bhai aaram se khel. Mauka mila hai. Gawaa na diyo tezi ke chakkar mein” (Play carefully. You’ve got a chance, don’t waste it just because you want to score at speed). But apparently, as he puts it, “body maan nahin rahi thhi” (my body wasn’t listening to me) so out on the field he decided to be aggressive & smart, rather than brash and rash.
The Delhi dazer who has time and again inspired people with his pep talk, displayed a rather jovial and spiritual side to his personality. In a heartfelt conversation with Vikram Sathaye he reveals how spirituality and persistence has helped him out over the years to deal with failures. Shikhar, in his most tranquil demeanor chronicles his love for the written word and the influence music has had in his life. From Sufi music to Ghazals, he explains in detail the magic that their words have had in times of his hardship and struggles.
From chuckling on his best sledging moments to talking about the silent aggression between him and Michael Clark, Dhawan gets quacking on this latest episode. He finally reveals the logic behind his signature SRK touch celebration style that makes us realize that we can’t get enough of him.
The teamwork that you see on the field reflects off the field as well. Dhawan shares an incident when he was on flight with the very stylish Virat and the reticent Dhoni. A passerby came up to the trio and offered free advice, which we Indians are more than famous for. The trendsetting Kohli, retorted, “If I advise you on how to become the Prime Minister of India, in the next one year, will it work?” That’s what we call giving it back in the most eloquent manner.
Dhawan goes on a balderdash when he explains his ‘muccho ka tav’ and giggles on his experience with advice free loaders.
