National, 16th December 2016: On 19 November 2016, Mumbai played host to the first Global Citizen Festival in India, a celebration that brought together international and Indian stars of music, sports and the screen, business leaders and politicians to kick-start India’s progress toward achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In one month, Global Citizen India in association with Colors, will give millions of viewers across India the opportunity to join in this celebration. Colors will air a double-blast telecast of the high-octane Festival at 12.30pm and again at 3.30pm on 18 December 2016.
The Festival featured the first-ever live performances by Coldplay, Jay Z, and Demi Lovato in India. They were joined by Arjun Kapoor, A.R.Rahman, Arijit Singh, Amitabh Bachchan, Ayushmann Khurrana, Dia Mirza, Farhan Akhtar, Freida Pinto,Malaika Arora Khan, Monali Thakur, Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Shraddha Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, and Vivek Oberoi.
Watch as Coldplay perform “Vande Mataram” with legendary A R Rahman, while Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan takes to the stage with The Shillong Chamber Choir. In what marks her first performance in India, Demi Lovato sets the stage on fire with her 20-min set of hit numbers. Not to mention Jay Z who sends the temperature soaring when he raps a specially composed version of “Bounce” to the Rahman hit “Chaiyya Chaiyya”.
The Global Citizen Festival India brought together 80,000 young people from across India who made their voices heard by leaders from private industry, government, non-governmental, community and religious organisations to galvanise support on the issues that matter: Sanitation, Education and Gender Equality. In response, leaders at the Festival made 25 announcements and commitments which are set to affect over 500 million people (50 crore) people, with a collective value of US$ 6.38 billion (INR 43,416 crore).
The Global Citizen Festival India was presented by Venky’s and Colors Viacom18 and powered by NECC and UPL. It was hosted in Mumbai in association with the Government of Maharashtra and was produced by Wizcraft International Entertainment PVT. The United Nations is a partner, and the Times of India Group and Viacom18 are strategic partners. Other partners include Google, Hindustan Unilever Limited, Renault, Ola Cabs, Spykar, Make My Trip, Taj Lands End, BookMyShow, Amity University, Kanakia and Quaker. The Global Citizen Festival India is a celebration of how India can mobilize Indian youth and facilitate mass behavioral change as well as a call to action for our leaders to do more to achieve sustainable and more inclusive growth. In the two months since the launch of the Global Citizen India movement, more than 5 lakh young Global Citizens in India took more than 21 lakh actions calling on political, faith and business leaders, with the support of key influencers , to be more accountable in their efforts to improve education, gender equality and water, sanitation and hygiene in India.
And this is just the beginning. Global Citizens will continue to campaign to make sure that leaders deliver on these promises, and that they commit to do even more on the ongoing calls to action that were launched from the stage of the event.

About the Global Citizen Festival India 2016
The inaugural Global Citizen Festival India was held at the MMRDA ground in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai on 19 November 2016. It was Global Citizen India’s first initiative, and it brought together 80,000 Global Citizens with political, spiritual, community and corporate leaders from India and the world who committed INR 43,416 crore (US$6.38 billion) to social good, set to affect the lives of 516 million people.
Commitments were made by leaders and organisations including: Secretary of Ministry of Drinking Water And Sanitation Shri Parameswaran Iyer, Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Mr Ratan Tata, Mr. K T Rama Rao, Toilet Board Coalition, World Bank’s International Finance Corporation, HP, IDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever Limited. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Festival, and support was given by leaders including WSSCC Chair and Nigerian Environment Minister Amina J Mohammed, social entrepreneur Muhammad Yunus, spiritual leader Dada Vaswani.
