Culture Machine releases path breaking video questioning one of India’s oldest tradition on its Channel Blush

Mumbai, 10th January: Girls have to change their surname post marriage or they are considered to be breaking traditions, a regressive norm we surprisingly still follow in the 21stcentury. Questioning exactly this, Culture Machine, India’s largest digital media company has released a thought-provoking video titled ‘The Last Name’, the second in their Mother and Daughter series on their channel Blush.
Capturing the unheard conversations between mothers and daughters, this series showcases the unconditional love and understanding in this beautiful relationship. While the first video was about ---, ‘The Last Name’ brings out how important it is for a mother to teach her child the right values. While teaching her to stand up for herself, a mother has to instil the difference between right and wrong in the daughter. A woman is expected to give up her home and family and accept the husband’s life as her own. The only thing she asks for in this video is her identity, her name. This video is truly heart-warming and at the same time, provokes one to question why we follow old ‘traditions’ without any rhyme or reason.
Blush released a statement – “Even today, when we see women being shunned because they choose to use their maiden name post marriage, it is heart-wrenching. It is disturbing to see that we have moved ahead in all fields of life and still choose to follow these norms set by society. With this video and series, we want to bring out what’s unheard and unsaid, between mothers and daughters and how important those conversations are.”
A video that will move you, while making you feel warm about the pure relationship between a mother and daughter, this is one you must not miss.
