20th January, 2017: MTR Foods Pvt. Ltd. the pioneer of ethnic Indian packaged foods kicked off its first Karnataka Food Festival called Karunadu Swada today, in the presence of Minister of Agriculture – Govt of Karnataka, Shri Krishna Byre Gowda. To be held over the weekend, the festival offers over a 100 unique ethnic dishes from six regions of one of the oldest surviving cuisines of India. The festival will provide an opportunity to all food lovers to come and experience an eclectic spread of signature dishes from Bangalore - Mysore, Mangalore, Udupi, Kodagu, Bidar-Gadag-Gulbarga and Belgaum-Dharwad-Bijapur
The festival was a result of years of groundwork conducted by MTR Foods and its food research division – Center of Excellence along with noted food historian – Chandri Bhat. In an attempt to capture the ethnic flavour of food from this region as much as possible, the Center of Excellence conducted in-depth cuisine studies across Karnataka, by travelling and visiting home-cooks from various regions over the last three years. More than a thousand recipes that were collected with the cuisine studies were either used for product development or curated and preserved. The Karnataka food festival is a way of giving about a 100 of these recipes back to the people of Karnataka in an easily accessible format.
MTR Foods has been the flag-bearers of India’s culinary heritage since their inception in 1924. By curating an experience like Karnataka Food Festival, MTR Foods intends to take the people of Bangalore and Karnataka on a journey of rediscovering the authentic taste of Karnataka.
On the occasion of the launch, CEO, MTR Foods, Sanjay Sharma, had this to say, “MTR Karunadu Swada-Karnataka Food Festival is our inaugural event through which we offer an authentic Kannadiga food experience curated by a host of home chefs and our Center of Excellence, who have an unmatched repository of authentic recipes. We intend to take all the people in Bengaluru, even those from other parts of the country, on a culinary journey of discovering truly ethnic Karnataka cuisine.”
Skilled home-cooks from six regions will be showcasing their regional culinary prowess across the venue, making it a complete sensory experience. Chandri Bhat, culinary expert and eminent food historian, has worked closely with these chefs and home-cooks to curate a tantalizing menu had this to say, “With people migrating within the country and even abroad and the increase in working hours, cooking has diversified a lot and been diluted a lot. People are always trying to find convenient recipes for their everyday life and the art of cooking is slowly losing its place. MTR Foods has always encouraged the preservation of our culinary heritage and I am proud to be associated with them.”
MTR’s Karnataka Food Festival – Karunadu Swada will be held on January 21st and 22nd at St. John’s Auditorium, Koramangala
