Mumbai February 13: Bombay Gymkhana teams had a successful opening rounds winning both their Team Championships matches in the Aditya Birla Capital sponsored 25th G.D. Birla Memorial Masters Inter-Club Badminton Tournament to be played at the Bombay Gymkhana and CCI courts. The championship is organised by Badminton 45 in association with Evolution Sport.
The Gymkhana’s formidable ‘A’ team proved too good for P.J. Hindu Gymkhana as they romped to an easy 3-0 win in Group-A. Their second team faced quite a challenge from Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana but managed to pull through by a 2-1 margin in a Group-G clash.
Meanwhile, The P.J. Hindu Gymkhana’s ‘A’ side did well to overcome Mandpeshwar Civic Federation by a close 2-1 margin, while Andheri Sports Complex 'A' and Catholic Gymkhana recorded fluent 3-0 wins against Insat Sporting Club and SAISA Club respectively.
Results - Team Championships - Group-A: Bombay Gymkhana 'A' beat P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 'B' 3-0 (Gautam Lad/Mangrish Palekar bt Nitin Bang/Samir Shah 30-17, Jatin Aggarwal/Pramod Ahuja bt Parag Shah/Vinay Daga 30-15, Naval Bir Kumar/Shailesh Daga bt Rajesh Mehta/Robin Jhaveri 30-12).
Group-C: BEST beat Andheri Sports Complex ‘B’ 2-1 (Dinesh Pandey/Suresh Jadhav lost Abhay Naik/Uday 21-30, Sachin Bharati/Sunil Pawar bt Anil D'souza/Tapan 30-26, Deepak Damania/Hemant Arolkar bt Bharati/Dhiren 30-24).
Group-D: P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 'A' beat Mandpeshwar Civic Federation 2-1 (Amit Shah/Kamlesh Dholakia bt manish Mehta/Vikas Shetty 30-26, Apurva Dharia/Shreyas Dharia bt Nituanand Shet/Satish Sharma 30-20, Arun Sekhsaria/Subash Mathija lost Hubert Miranda/Sudesh Kulkarni 15-30).
Group-F: Catholic Gymkhana beat SAISA 3-0 (Bibhash Chatterjee/Bimaldeep Singh bt Pradeep Chauhan/Prakash Jivnani 30-18, Ajay Bhatia/Vilas Kuvale bt Rajesh Wadhwa/Ram Mirchandani 30-8, Kiran Patil/Sachin Parikh bt Babu Jacob/Girish Batra 30-18).
