Pune, Mumbai to clash in sub-junior girls finals
Mumbai, February 13: Pune District and Mumbai District comfortably sailed into the Sub-Junior girls finals of the WIFA organized Maharashtra State Inter-District Football Championships 2017-18 and played at Jalgaon on Tuesday.
In the first semi-final, Pune overcame Kolhapur 3-1 with Poorva Gaikwad (3rd min), Swara Pathak (17th) and Karanti More (54th) scoring the goals, while Kolhapur pulled one back through Samruddhi Kotkale (53rd).
The second semi-final was a one-sided contest as Mumbai stormed to an emphatic 8-0 win against the hapless Solapur girls. Strikers
Strikers Jhanvi Shetty and Sai Sankhe, both netted a brace of goals while Bhumika Mane, Christine Nazereth, Riddhi Mehra and Priyanka Suyesh chipped in with one each to complete Mumbai’s big victory.
Mumbai District also recorded a facile 7-0 win against Satara District in a Sub-junior boys match played at Palghar. Johnson Mathews led Mumbai charge with a hat-trick while Aman Gaikwad netted two and Twain Fernandes and Bhupathi Chandra scored one each to round off the winning tally.
Results - Sub-junior girls (semi-final): Pune District 3 (Poorva Gaikwad, Swara Pathak, Karanti More) beat Kolhapur District 1 (Samruddhi Kotkale).
Mumbai District 8 (Jhanvi Shetty 2, Sai Sankhe 2, Bhumika Mane, Christine Nazereth, Riddhi Mehra, Priyanka Suyesh) beat Solapur District 0.
Sub-junior boys (pre-quarters): Mumbai District 7 (Johnson Mathews 3, Aman Gaikwad 2, Twain Fernandes, Bhupathi Chandra) beat Satara 0.
