To celebrate the Year of the Dog, Yauatcha has commissioned leading artists across London and India to recreate Chinese New Year lanterns in a unique, contemporary manner, paying homage to the ancient auspicious tradition. While   two leading London artists – Lydia Kasumi Shireff and Jamie Julien Brown will design lanterns for Yauatcha London, to celebrate Chinese New Year in India, Yauatcha has collaborated with renowned fashion and costume designer Nachiket Barve who is celebrating the tenth year milestone of his eponymous label. Barve has designed customised paper-cut lanterns that will light up the restaurants in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.
Karyna Bajaj, Executive Director, KA Hospitality says “We are excited to bring the concept of collaborating with an artist for Chinese New Year to India. This completely novel collaboration is something new for both the brand and the designer. Nachiket is known for progressive yet timeless design that looks at traditional techniques through a contemporary lens”
“The richly layered forms of the lanterns for Yauatcha create a mood of fantasy, magic and celebration. Suspended in time and space, they evoke the mysticism and romance of Wong Kar Wai’s Cinema, the exuberance of the Chinese New Year and the rich vibrant yet elegant glamour synonymous with the label. This is my first collaboration of its kind and I think the timing could not have been better as we turn ten, we are in celebration mode and what better than Chinese New Year with Yauatcha. I am happy to be a part of the group of artists to create thus artful signature collection of lanterns”, says Nachiket Barve.
The culinary team at Yauatcha has also created a special menu for the celebration; the menu has been expertly crafted to offer dishes that are traditionally eaten during Chinese New Year along with some brand new creations by Yauatcha. The menu will be available until Sunday, March 04, 2018.
