Adoption of global standards will improve our productivity: Vice President Delivers Sir M. Visvesvaraya Memorial Lecture


Today 27th December 2016,
6th Dr. M. Visvesvaraya Memorial lecture on 'Enhancing India's Global Competitiveness" was delivered by our Hon Vice President Shri M Hamid Ansari at World Trade Centre , Mumbai.
Also present were  Shri Vinod Tawade ( Minister of higher and technical education, Marathi Bhasha, Current affairs, Government of Maharashtra , Mr. Ghazi Abu Nahl, Chairman WTC Association New York and Shri Kamal M. Morarka, Chairman World Trade Centre.
Mr. Kamal M. Morarka said ,"It's indeed an honour for us,
In last 10 yrs we did quite well, we received  60 foreign deligations, we have done quite well last year."
Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari and Shri Vinod Tawade were felicitated by WTC Chairman Shri Kamal M. Morarka.
Mr. Ghazi Abu Nahl, Chairman WTC Association New York said ," Today India has 20 WTCs,  330 WTCs all over the world , we are connected to 330 cities all over the world, our main aim is to promote trade , and create employment in India.
Also to cooperate together to benefit India to attain more Competitiveness.
India is the economic Hub in the world.

WTCA Award of Honor 2016 was presented by Hon Vice President, Shri M Hamid Ansari  to Smt. Rajshree Birla, Chairperson, Aditya Birla Centre for Community initiatives and Rural Development for great work towards Community development and welfare among rural areas also empowering the underprivileged.
Hon Vice President of India, M Hamid Ansari was honored to deliver the lecture.
While delivering the lecture he praised Dr. M.Visvesvaraya for his hard work and contribution in the field of engineering and also for having a firm belief in hard work and perfection.
According to the Vice President of India, the major challenges faced by India include increase in trade deficit and increase in unemployment for which growth in manufacturing can be a possible solution to overcome these challenges and increase the GDP growth.
Flagship Make in India was also launched to encourage manufacturing.
In order to enhance and make the products competitive, early adoption of new techniques is must.
Technology has been the principal driver in globalization especially Information Technology.
Global standards are facilitating international trade and India needs to set up global standards for high influence globally. Hence India needs to be prepared to adopt standards and uniform laws globally which will help facilitate international trade and investment.
Reasons for adoption of global standards are stated as below:
1 Standards can be strategic tools for companies to ensure that the business operations are efficient, increase productivity and access new market.
2. It helps businesses cut cost and increase customer satisfaction.
3. It helps reduce the impact of production and consumption on the environment.
4. It helps reassure consumers that products, systems and organizations are safe, reliable and good for the environment.
5. Standards boosts businesses and economy.
6. Standards are the Vital source of developing public policy
7. It  facilities the moment of goods , services and technology from country to country.
8. It plays an important role in the diffusion of knowledge.
He said that Global standardization process must be much more transparent.
