Liberty Cinema Reopens with Dangal

South Mumbai's iconic single screen theatre, Liberty, will throw it's doors open for movie lovers once again after 4 years. Liberty had been staging a lot of events, film festivals and live shows during this period. With Aamir Khan's Dangal Liberty re opens to screen Hollywood and bollywood blockbusters in addition to having and promoting events for class audience
Liberty, which had its first commercial screening in 1949 was considered as the 'Showplace of the nation' by its founder Late Mr. Habib Hoosein. Mr. Hoosein left no stone unturned to make Liberty one of the most sought after theatres in Mumbai where every producer wanted to screen his film. The opulent 'Art Deco' architecture of Liberty is still untouched since its opening, a fact Mr. Nazir Hoosein, son of Mr.Habib Hoosein takes much pride in. Today Liberty is rated among the world's top 5 'Art Deco' cinemas in the world.
While Liberty had a dream run ever since it's inception, the rise of Multiplexes in 2005 and the subsequent tax waivers they received from the Govt, hit most single screen hard. The theatre stopped screening films in 2012 and shifted it's focus on musical and stages events, film shoots and other activities that needed a venue of Liberty's stature.
4 years later, Sohel Kazani & Irfan Siddiqui took this initiative along with the owner, Mr. Nazir Hoosein. Liberty once again throws its doors open to patrons on the 23rd of December with Aamir Khan starrer Dangal.. This though will not hinder other forms of entertainment staged at Liberty, the administration of the theatre will continue to host several other events as well.
Terming Liberty as one of the only theatres in the city providing a range of entertainment options, the spokesperson, Mr. Irfan of RG studios says, "Its a one of a kind venue and we are sure the audience will enjoy watching movies at this iconic theatre". Mr. Sohel Kazani further adds, "We want to revive the single screen experience for the generation that has grown up watching films at multiplexes."
