India's biggest broadcaster revamps news studios

Lawo will supply mixers for the news upgrade. Indian state broadcaster Doordarshan (DD), one the largest TV networks in the world has upgraded its news studios. Providing national, regional and local programming, Doordarshan operates around 21 channels including DD News, DD National, DD Sport and DD Bharati. The new studio will provide fully integrated operations with a new suite of news gathering technology.

Systems integration for the Doordarshan Central Production Centre (CPC) project has been handled by Sun Broadcast, and will include mixers from German company Lawo. Planning began in mid-2015, with the contract awarded 12 months later. The console order was placed with Lawo in October 2016. The installation is currently underway with completion set for the end of March.

"We won the tender with a 40-fader mc²36 with 96+96 DSP channels," said Lawo sales director for Southeast Asia, Tan Boon Siong. "It's the first mc² series mixing console at DD. As well as price, we won on our ability to meet all the technical requirements laid down by Doordarshan. We have complied with all the technical requirements of the studio design technical team. Now the installation is nearly complete, with parameter verification, performance testing expected to take one year for the approval process." Lawo is headquartered in the Rhine valley town of Rastatt, Germany.
