Tiruchy K. R. Kumar, Staff Artist, AIR, Mangalore retires on superannuation on 30th June, 2020


Tiruchy K. R. Kumar, Staff Artist(Ghatam), All India Radio, Mangalore is retired on 30th June, 2020.  Sri. Kumar joined AIR Mangalore on 11.12.1986 and completed 35 years of service. He was awarded Top Grade in  07th October, 2010 and Selection Grade on 19th November, 2012.  
Tiruchy K. R. Kumar was born in a family of Music connoisseurs, in the year 1960 at Ayyampetta in Thanjavur District, Tamilnadu.  
He started Mridangam practice at the tender age of six and later he started learning Ghatam under the guidance Tiruchy Sri. R. Thayumanavan, a famous Mridangam, Khanjira and Konnakol artist.  
Gradually Kumar showed  interest in Ghatam and  he earned a good name in the field of Karnataka Music. He has developed his own style of playing Ghatam which attracted general public.  His performances are marked by perfect harmony between rhythm and melody.  Skill full finger movement and mastery over intricate Layapetterns. He brings beauty and  life to rhythm,  keeping the identity of Ghatam while performing along with Mridangam and other instrumentalists. 
Tiruchy K. R. Kumar has provided Ghatam accompaniment to a Galaxy of top ranking Carnatic musicians few of them are Dr. S. Ramanathan, Madurai Somu, Maharajapuram Santhanam, T. V. Shankaranarayana, A.K.C. Nataran, K. V. Narayana Swamy, T. N. Sheshagopalan, S. Govindarajan,   M. S. Gopalkrishnana, T. N. Krishnan, Lalgudy Jayraman, N. Ramani, S. P. Natarajan, Kadri Gopalnath, U. Srinivas, R. Vishweshwaran, R. K. Srikantan, M. S. Sheela and many other with top ranking artist.  He was also accompanied to famous  violinist Kunnakudi. R. Vaidyanathan along with Thavil Chakravarthy Valayapatti Sri. A. R. Subramanyam and this group presented more than 2000 programmes all over the Country.  
Number of commercial discs, cassettes and CD's are released by HMV, AVM, Sangeetha  Companies in his name.  He has won many honours, awards and titles for captivating performances.
He has composed and produced many orchestra and participated Akashvani Sangeetha Sammelana and T.V. National Programme of music.
Apart from performing on the Ghatam and Mridangam, Kumar is also talented creative lyricist in Tamil and he was written many Devotional songs.  He wrote 3 Corona-Covid 19 songs which were  tuned and sung by him and broadcast over AIR Mangalore, Kalburgi, Raichur and many other Stations of All India Radio. 
Tiruchy K. R. Kumar is a Selection Grade Ghatam Artist and also approved in Mridangam.  During this Covid-19 period a informal send off was organised at HOP room and his contribution towards music section in All India Radio Mangalore is memorable permanently said Sooryanarayana Bhat, HOP of AIR Mangalore.  
Tiruchy K. R. Kumar is a very dedicated, hard working and disciplined employee of the organisation.
