Mehak Lobo hat-trick helps Mumbai emerge champions
Mumbai, February 14: Mumbai District girls emerged triumphant, thanks to an impressive display from striker Mehak Lobo who notched up a fine hat-trick as they outplayed Pune District 4-0 in the Sub-Junior girls finals of the WIFA organized Maharashtra State Inter-District Football Championships 2017-18 and played at Jalgaon on Wednesday.
The enterprising Mehak showed good finishing touches scored the first goal in the 23rd minute and added the second in the 31st minute before teammate Riya D’Souza chipped in with the third in the 47th minute.
Mehak was once again in the thick of action completing her hat-trick and Mumbai’s fourth goal in the 61st minute.
Meanwhile, Kolhapur rode on the brace of goals from Pranay Ghatge to overcome Nagpur 2-0 in Junior boys’ quarter-final encounter. Ghatge scored his first goal in the 16th minute and added the second in the 42nd minute to seal Kolhapur’s place in the semi-final.
Mumbai, Pune and Jalgaon also advanced to the semi-finals.
Results - Sub-junior girls (final): Mumbai District 4 (Mehak Lobo 3, Riya D’Souza) beat Pune District 0.
Junior boys (pre-quarters): Jalgoan 4 (Hriday Ahuja, Ameer Khan, Dhananjay Chaudhari, Saurav Sonawane) bt Nashik 2 (Darshan Ahire, Rythm Kasliwal).
Mumbai 4 (Kunal Patil 2, Mervin Pereira, Johnson Mathews) bt Thane 0.
Pune 7 (Shivraj Patil 2, Santosh Rathod 2, Vishwanath Shelke, Vikram Rathod, Abhishek Suryavanshi) bt Solapur 0.
Kolhapur 2 (Pranay Ghatge 2) bt vs Nagpur 0.
