Raga 2017: Vivekanand Education Society’s degree college students celebrate the richness of Indian culture and traditions

Mumbai, Sept 9: Aiming to integrate the students fraternity with Indian traditions and giving a glimpse into the rich mosaic that is the Indian culture, Raga 2017 was celebrated with great aplomb on September 9. A brainchild of Prof. (Mrs) Shikha Dutta, HOD, BMM Department of Vivekanand Education Society (VES) College of Arts, Science and Commerce, the 15th edition of the festival was themed around “Yug Agaman”. The theme elucidated the transitions in human values and changes in socio-cultural traditions through the eras of Satyug, Tretayug, Dwaparyug and Kaliyug, as depicted in Hindu mythology.
“India has a rich cultural history and tradition of arts, crafts and music as old as human civilization. Raga is an attempt to introduce the student fraternity to the rich Indian cultural tapestry and keep them rooted in Indian traditions. The festival also provides a robust performance platform to singers, dancers and budding musicians to display their talent and creative potential,”stated Prof (Mrs) Shikha Dutta.
The festival was an eclectic mix of tribute to the Bhakti tradition in Indian culture with obeisance paid to Lord Krishna through a mime performance, a scintillating Bhangra performance celebrating the Indian robustness and a Garba performance offering prayers to Goddess Durga. The festival was an outpouring and celebration of youth with the participants and audience feeling young and invigorated.
