AIR BENGALURU AT A GLANCE...
Commissioned on 2nd November 1955, All India Radio Bangalore is the capital station of Karnataka. The broadcasting set up was housed in a rented building named 'Cubbon House'. This is now a heritage building which was earlier owned by Humayun Mirza, who was the son of Sir Mirza Ismail, the illustrious Dewan of Mysore. The new studio complex built during 1981 now houses Primary Channel, FM Rainbow, Vividh Bharathi, Amrithavarshini (Classical Music Channel), DTH channel and External Services (Kannada) channels.
AIR bengaluru has studio complex which comprises, adg office,ccw office fm transmitters, news unit, marketing division of air and doordarshan , administrative block and a type iv(R) studio with uplinking and webstreaming services. it cover the land area of 4 acres and is located in close proximity to Vidhan soudha,rajbhavan and metro stations of cubbon park. Receiving centre located around 20 km from studio having the land area of 4.5 Acres is on the right side of Tirupathi highway. The medium wave DRM transmitter is at Hoskote is about 30km from the city and have Land area of 54 acres. All India Radio, Bangalore has successfully accomplished the cause of Kannada language, land and Culture while instilling the sense of National Integration and the spirit of Democracy among its listeners. Vividh Bharati established in 1970, did open up the first opportunities to advertise the products and services of proactive businessmen. The new wave of 'infotainment' broadcasting with new FM Technology started with the commissioning of FM Rainbow dubbed as the entertainment channel on 1st September 2001. Amrithavarshini.
India's first ever Classical Music Channel, launched on 26th January 2004 became an instant hit as it addressed the need for aesthetically pleasing musical experience. Presently, Direct To Home (DTH) services carry the broadcasts of Primary Channel, FM Rainbow , in addition to the existing classical channel another 24X7 on Raagam DTH to the nook and corner of our country. Kannada Service of External Services Division broadcasts to reach out to the listeners in the Middle East. Another mile stone of AIR Bengaluru is, its presence over the web, www.airbengaluru.com. It can serve three different Bit rate Streaming Channels to their Listeners spread around the world.with the power of Internet Radio the radio station is reaching across the globe. We are proud to say that we have listeners from United States, Indonesia ,Japan,Germany,Sweden, candada,Australia, United Kingdom etc. With proactive approach of the entire technical team and its varied experiments in broadcasting techniques since its inception AIR, Bangalore has the rare distinction of being called the 'Broadcasting Laboratory' of the country.The entire chain from the studio, studio to transmitter link and the latest DRM Digital transmitter is digital , thus enhancing the audio experience.
