Players Say Dogs and Cats Need Animal Birth Control, Too
Mumbai – Hockey India League fever is all set to hit the headlines and team Dabang Mumbai HCtook time out of their busy schedule to speak up for animals. Today at theBombay Presidency Radio Club Ltd, Colaba, the Dabang Mumbai HCplayers posed with PETA’s cute and playful condom mascots with a placard reading, “Dogs Can’t Use Condoms, Sterilise Them” for a brand new PETA campaign which launches just days in advance of the Hockey India League kick-off on21 January. The make-up was by Ayesha Wadiwala and hair-styling by Pawan O Duggal using the cruelty-free brand Biotop Professional products.
"Countless animals in India struggle to survive on the streets – going hungry and being hit by vehicles and abused by cruel people," says Benazir Suraiya, Associate Manager with PETA. "Cats and dogs can't use condoms, but we can get them sterilised and help ensure as many as possible get good homes."
In India, tens of millions of homeless cats and dogs struggle to survive on the streets. Many of them go hungry, are hit by vehicles or are abused by cruel people. Countless others are kept in animal shelters because there aren't enough good homes for them. PETA advocates the sterilisation of companion animals – a routine, affordable surgery that can prevent thousands of animals from being born only to suffer and struggle to survive on the streets. Just one unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in six years. In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce 370,000 kittens.
Sterilisation eliminates the stress and discomfort that females endure during heat and greatly reduces the risk of developing mammary cancer. It also makes males far less likely to roam or fight.
