Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mr. Prakash Javadekar on Saturday announced that All India Radio's National Music Conference (AKASHWANI SANGEET SAMMELAN) will now be known as Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Music Conference. He was speaking at the inaugural function of musical programme 'Abhivadan' organised to mark the occasion of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's Birth Centenary celebrations in Pune today. Mr. Javadekar said that Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's musical presence on All India Radio and Television needs to be redesigned to reach out to the world through social media. He further said, the steps have been taken in this direction.
Speaking on this occasion, Indian Council for Cultural Relations President Vinay Sahastrabuddhe announced to start Swarbhaskar Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Classical Music Scholarship for Foreign Students who want to come to India for learning Indian Classical Music from next year. NCP President Sharad Pawar also lauded the role of Akashwani in spreading music amongst the masses.
The two-day programme has been organised by Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch in Pune. Tomorrow, the programme will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eminent dignitaries from outside the field of music will be reminiscing about Panditji. Senior Film Director Dr Jabbar Patel, veteran writer Sadanand More, Socialist and renowned writer Achyut Godbole will also be interacting with writer, director and lyricist Shrirang Godbole at this juncture.
A special short film by Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal made on Panditji after his demise will be shown in the third session on Sunday. Senior vocalist Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, veteran vocalist of Kirana Gharana Dr Prabha Atre, senior sitar player Ustad Shahid Parvez, famous classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty and Panditji's disciples- including Pandit Upendra Bhat, Anand Bhate, Srinivas Joshi and his grandson, Viraj Joshi will also perform at the event.
