68 Years ago, our forefathers fought to win us our independence. Their struggle was long and tough. But today, we celebrate the spirit of being free and independent as a nation. Spuul would like to celebrate Republic Day along with their viewers by showcasing 10 films which bring out the fighting spirit we’d only heard of in stories told us to us by our grandparents.
These films have beautifully captured the struggle of freedom, patriotic spirit and national pride. Some of these movies are just cinematic experiences – from the storyline to the sets to the brilliant acting and what better way to enjoy a relaxed Republic Day with Spuul along with friends and family at home.

An interesting plot of a retired police commissioner recounts the most memorable case of his career wherein he was informed about a bomb scare in Mumbai. An Indian sports film ‘Chak De! India explores religious sentiments, the partition of India, ethnic and sexism in contemporary India in a fictional story about the Indian women's national field-hockey team which was inspired by the team's win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. The film stars Shahrukh Khan as Kabir Khan, former captain of the Indian men's national field-hockey team. A film that shows pride and sportsmanship.

The film stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead role of Mary Kom the boxer hailing from north-east.The film depicts Kom's journey of becoming a boxer to her victory at the 2008 World Boxing Championships in Ningbo. It was a moment of pride when Mary Kom won the medal for the country.

A 2014 Indian action thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. It is a remake of Murugadoss' own acclaimed Tamil film Thuppakki (2012). It features Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. Akshay Kumar plays Virat, a soldier, accidentally bumps into a terrorist who plans to rip apart Mumbai with a series of blasts. Virat gathers his team and it is up to him to save Mumbai from terrorists.

1942: A Love Story is a 1994 Bollywood film starring Anil Kapoor, Manisha Koirala and Jackie ShroffThe film was the first ever to be given a U/A rating. It is a story of the son, of a politician loyal to the British rule romances the daughter of a freedom fighter. They are separated by the revolution when her father plots to assassinate a British general. The film was highly acclaimed for its music, songs, picturization, cinematography and lyrics.

Phantom is a 2015 Indian action thriller film directed by Kabir Khan. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in leading roles. The story revolves around an Indian soldier who wants to restore his honour, is hired by a spy agency to assassinate the suspects of the 26/11 attacks. The screenplay of the film has been in coordination with author Hussain Zaidi's book Mumbai Avengers on the aftermath of 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
