The hard decision like demonetization taken by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi will have good effect on the Indian economy and will set India on faster growth path, said Shri Hansraj Ahir, Minister of State for Home Affairs. He was speaking at Digi Dhan Mela organised in Mumbai today. He asserted that demonetization has freeze the source of money to terrorist, naxalites and other anti-social elements.
He appealed the citizens, merchants and others to support the digital payment platforms and make economy less cash and ultimately cashless.
To promote Digital Payments Special habit amongst the citizens of the city and the State, Government of India along with Government of Maharashtra organised a Digi Dhan Mela.
This has done under the aegis of present two schemes of Government of India, namely Lucky Grahak Yojana for Consumers and Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana for Merchants, which seek to nudge people towards significantly higher usage of digital transactions through the offer of incentives. The Government of India seeks to promote digital payment methods to encourage consumers and merchants to increasingly shift to these payment modes. NITI Aayog of Government of India and Department of Electronics & IT are leading the efforts in this direction.
The mela have 60+ stalls manned by banks, e-wallet, telecom and transportation (auto/car) network companies, Aadhaar enabled payment system (AEPS) vendors, merchants associations, Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra operators, Fair Price Shop Owners, small vendors, self help groups from MSRLM, NPCI, UIDAI etc.
Training regarding digital payments was also imparted to the Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra operators, Fair price shop owners, Auto-Taxi operators from Mumbai, Thane and Raigad. All such providers have provided with space at venue where customers and merchants able to get information and get sensitised or trained about digi operations.
The prizes for the competition organized regarding slogan making, radio jingles/ spot etc for two age groups – below 18 and above 18 were distributed. Digital prizes/Awards were given to persons for winners various contests.
A lucky draw was taken out for awards to be given out on a daily and weekly basis under the Lucky Grahak Yojana and weekly basis under the Digi-Dhan Vyapar Yojana. The scheme implemented by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). Only those transactions that take place through RuPay Cards, USSD, UPI and AEPS are eligible for this scheme.
The scheme has become operational nationally with the first draw on 25th December, 2016 (coinciding with Christmas) and would lead up to 14th April 2017 (coinciding with Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti) with a Mega Draw.
During the day-long event, help were also extended to citizens for opening their bank accounts, linking mobile number to bank account, Aadhaar enrolment, carrying out Aadhaar updates, seeding Aadhaar number with bank account number etc. Thus every effort have been made to create awareness among the visitors regarding conduct of safe and secure digital payments.
Shri Vikram Singh Gaur, Joint Secaretary, NITI Aayog, Shri Arvind Sawant, Member of Parliament, Sports celebrities, Shri Veer Dhawal Khade and Ms. Suwarna Bartakke and other senior dignitaries were present at the occasion.
