Double delight for Maharashtra as they went on to win two gold medals in in the 11th Mr. India Senior Men’s and Women’s Body Building & 6th Men’s and Women’s Physique Sports National Championship at the Shri Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge, Balewadi, Pune.
It was Nitin Mhatre in the 65kg category and Kanchi Adwami added the second winning the women's bodybuilding
After returning empty handed in the first event, the 55kg category, Maharashtra’s Nitin Mhatre and Pratik Panchal won the gold and bronze in the 60kg section, respectively, to open their medal account.
Mumbaikar, a trainer back home, Nitin Mharte overcame the strong challenge of the Railway Sports Promotion Board’s K Haribabu who won the silver.
Holders RSPB were marching towards claiming their overall championship as they won three gold, one each silver and bronze at the time of going to the press.
JJ  Charaborthy won the first gold medal of the championship winning the gold in the 55kg category. Sonu a trainer himself from Delhi won the silver in the category with RSPB’s Kundan Kumar Gope added the bronze medal. The winner take home Rs One lakh while the second and the third place athletes take home the trophy and cash prize of Rs 70,000 and 50,000 respectively..
“It is a different feeling taking part in this championship, but winning gold medal says it all, after the hard work put in the last year years,”said the 27-year-old Charaborthy, soon after winning the gold medal. “I am happy that I also see my team mate Kundan among the medal winners,”added the champion.
Defending champions added their second gold when S Bhaskaran won the gold in the 65kg. Anil Gochikar (Orisha) while Delhi’s Mittal Kumar Singh won the silver and bronze respectively.
