Zee Classic to air ‘Bombay’ under ‘India’s Finest Films’ on 23rd March 2018 at 10 PM

A Hindu man and a Muslim woman fall in love in a small village and move to Mumbai, where they have two children. However, growing religious tensions and erupting riots threaten to tear the family apart. Produced and directed by Mani Ratnam and musically painted by A.R. Rahman, this National Award-winning film, based on true incidents was originally made in Tamil and soon translated in Hindi owing to its popularity. Zee Classic with its proposition Woh Zamana Kare Deewana presents this Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala starrer movie, ‘Bombay’ on Friday, 23rd March 2018 at 10 PM, under the banner of ‘India’s Finest Films’.
Shekhar (Arvind Swamy), a south Indian Hindu boy falls in love with a Muslim girl from his village, Shaila Bhanu (Manisha Koirala). The village from where they hail is highly apprehensive of inter-religion marriages. Fighting all odds, Shaila elopes from home to marry Shekhar who now works as a reporter in Mumbai. The couple is blessed with twin sons. The rest of the film is set during the December 1992 - January 1993 riots which raised religious tension in Mumbai and other parts of India. The couple is separated from their children, and the fathers of both parents are killed when their home is burned by rioters. An underlying moral of thinking of oneself as an Indian rather than a Hindu or a Muslim is prevalent throughout the latter part of the film.
Will the loss of dear ones lead to moral awakening of the masses or will Shekhar and Shaila’s relationship too succumb to the differences of religions?
To know what happens to Shekhar and Shaila’s small world, watch Bombay on Friday 23rd March 2018 at 10PM only on Zee Classic
