Impact of the cochlear Implant project - a CSR initiative Empowerment of th e disabled needs peoples participation – Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot

Under the Cochlear Implant Scheme of the Government of India for hearing disability hundred children under 6 years have benefited as a result of Corporate Social Responsibility initiative of the Power  Finance Corporation. Disclosing this at a press meet in Mumbai today Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot said that peoples participation along with corporate participation is a must for empowering the disabled .He felicitated the children and their parents and said that parents must ensure speech therapy for one year at the Ali Yavar Jung Institute of Speech and Hearing disabilities to enable children to speak fully. Each surgery costs about Rupees six lakhs and the Power Finance Corporation has come forward to help the children from homes which cannot afford this kind of surgery .The Minister stated that the Ali Yavar Jung institute has cured 836 children with hearing disability through cochlear implant.

 Shri Gehlot disclosed that, Government of India has organised more than 5890 camps for helping people with various kinds of disabilities. More than 9 lakhs disabled have received aid during these camps.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under which Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) offers services for the disabled at affordable cost is committed to helping people with disabilities and restoring their dignity .PFC and ALIMCO signed an MoU on25TH July 2016 for conducting Cochlear Implant Surgeries for 100 beneficiaries on a pan India basis valuing Rs 630 lakhs under the CSR initiative of Power Finance Corporation Ltd.
During the press meet the children who have benefited from the cochlear implant surgery and also their parents interacted with the media. The parents expressed their gratitude to the Government of India and the institutes like PFC and ALIMCO who have helped their children overcome their hearing disability.
